As long as I’ve lived in Dallas, it has been a mission of mine to find the healthiest ways to eat out around town. When I heard that there would be a new veggie-centric restaurant opening attached to the farmers market, I marked my calendar and patiently awaited it’s arrival. It has only been open a few weeks and I can embarrassingly admit that I’ve tried almost 1/4 of their seasonal menu already. This restaurant is any health-nut’s dream come true. With an abundant amount of vegan, gluten-free, vegetarian, and paleo options; Mudhen Meat and Greens is officially my new favorite restaurant in town. (more…)

Happy new year everyone!!!!!! I still can’t believe it’s almost been a year since I began Inches Miles Moments. I am humbled to receive messages from those of you who have been affected in some way by my weight loss journey. I am so excited for everything this upcoming year has to offer and can’t wait to get started on my new list of goals. I apologize for the lack of blog posts in the past few months. I have been personally dealing with an extreme diet change based on a diagnosis I received in October that has required me to go gluten-free. After a year of getting tested by a long list of different kinds of doctors, I finally have an answer. After three months of no gluten, I have started recognizing parts of my body, personality, attitude, and spirit that I haven’t seen in years. This is how going gluten-free has changed my life. Exercise is a way to burn calories and keep your body in good shape, and good health. It is also one of the most dreaded parts of any sane person’s day. Working out has never been very high on my priority list, but once I realized exercise was part of the weight loss equation, it naturally became part of my daily to-dos. Throughout the years, I have tried many different kinds of classes to learn about all the ways you can burn calories and stay in shape. These are my top 5 picks for workout classes I’ve attended in Dallas. (more…)

It’s officially my absolute favorite time of the year! The leaves are falling and the crisp smell of Autumn is in the air! Those last brutal summer months are over and it’s feeling chilly enough for a light sweater and a pumpkin spice latte. I love the feeling October brings; there’s excitement in the air with Halloween decorations on every porch and the holiday season just beginning. My cabinets are officially stocked with cans of pumpkin puree for whatever holiday recipe I decide to make next. I celebrated the start of October with my favorite smoothie recipe, my Pumpkin Apple Pie Protein Smoothie! This delicious smoothie is so tasty, you will think you’re eating a dessert for breakfast! It’s quick, easy, and very good for you! (more…)

I think I’ve found my new favorite restaurant. Seriously guys, this place is a health-nut’s DREAM. Modmarket opened on the corner of 75 and Walnut Hill in February and I had been dying to check it out since I spotted it across from the newest Traders Joes a few months ago. It wasn’t until I saw their calorie conscious menu and that their motto is “We believe a diet of simple, whole foods is key to a happy, healthy life,” that I knew I had to stop by. After spending a total of $8, eating a total of 500 calories, and feeling totally and completely satisfied with my delicious experience did I realize that this is the restaurant I’ve been waiting for my entire life. Losing weight is a very difficult thing to do if you don’t know how! There are SO many diet fads out there: Paleo, vegan, gluten-free, Atkins, etc. Everyone is different and one might work for you over others. The reason I was so successful my first year of weight loss was thanks to the Jenny Craig diet program! I was in college and having a weeks worth of food shipped to me already packaged, measured, and calorie counted was the easiest way for me to quickly begin eating healthy without much thought. Not everyone has the luxury of being able to be on a program like that, in fact, I had a hard time figuring out what kind of food and how much of it I should be eating after I stopped eating Jenny Craig meals. Luckily, Jenny Craig did teach me one thing very important to losing weight: PORTION CONTROL.
For the most part, I’m a big believer in smoothies for breakfast. They’re packed with a ton of healthy fruits and veggies and really provide a great start to your day. But, occasionally I wake up on the weekend and all I want is coffee and something loaded with carbs and sugar. We all have our flaws; I’m only human y’all. I’ve started making healthy baked goods over the weekend to have them around as treats throughout the week and it kind of feels like I’m cheating when I reach for a muffin at 3 in the afternoon. This recipe is packed with healthy carbs, protein, and natural sweeteners with plenty of fruity, spring time flavors to brighten up your day!

Anytime I’m feeling a bit gross, run down, or bloated it’s typically due to the food I’ve been eating, especially after a vacation! I was in major need of a cleanse this week and turned to Suja’s 3-day fresh start juice cleanse from Costco. I have seen this little box at Costco before for only $30, and once I decided to try it, it was already gone from the store! They go quickly so when I saw them on the shelves over the weekend, I scooped one up immediately! Don’t worry though if you don’t have a Costco membership, they sell a different Suja juice cleanse at Target as well if you’re interested in their products! After 3 days, I’ve lost 1.5 lbs and feel lighter and ready for the weekend. Here’s my recap of the meals, juices, and experience!
