Where To Eat Healthy In Dallas: Origin Kitchen + Bar

AcaiBowlIt’s almost my FAVORITE time of the year, and that means a lot of brunch dates. Fall is the perfect time to get up early to take a morning jog and throw on your favorite sweater to meet a friend for coffee and pancakes. It’s been difficult for me to find restaurants that offer up fall breakfast favorites without all the extra calories. I’ve driven past Origin on Mckinney so many times and never thought of them as a healthy brunch spot until I saw a picture of their acai bowl and had to stop by to see for myself.

“Seasonal Craft Cuisine with an emphasis on local, fresh and expertly sourced ingredients. Eat. Drink. Socialize.” is what Origin has as their tagline on their Facebook page. This small, neighborhood restaurant was bustling with people coming from all kinds of occasions on their weekend morning. Post-work out groups, friends, couples, and families filled the space and I was forced to sit at their first come, first serve bar for breakfast. I didn’t mind being up next to the barista and bartender mixing up craft cocktails and enjoying a view outside their large window facing Mckinney Ave.

I ordered their $11 acai granola bowl, an a-la-carte Paleo pancake, and an almond milk latte. They serve Dallas’s own Cultivar coffee and I’m always a big fan of anywhere that actually has almond milk as an option. There wasn’t any kind of interesting foam art work, but it tasted great regardless.

The acai granola bowl was way bigger than I expected! The granola on top was soft with a slight crunch and full of flavor. It was also loaded with currants, raisins, bananas, blueberries, and blackberries. Truly a great way to start your morning!

The Paleo pancakes caught my eye on the menu as well. I had to order one a-la-carte to get a taste. Possibly the best clean pancake I’ve had in a restaurant. The barista told me they use coconut flour, almond flour, almond milk, honey, and an egg! That’s it! It had a great bite and flavor to it; totally satisfies that pancake craving. The full order comes with berries and a chintilly cream.

Definitely check out Origin for brunch next time you’re in need of something healthy and delicious to start your day with!

Until Next Time,

Melanie
